My love for my Dyson

So as some of you know, I purchased a Dyson Animal(the purple one)Vacuum back in May of 2005. It is hands down the BEST vacuum on the planet! I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! If you do not have one I seriously urge you to get one! Sell a kid(just kidding!) or a kidney, charge it on the Star Card.....whatever!
So, why do I love it so much you ask? Well It has a 30 ft hose so you can leave it at the bottom of the stairs and go all the way up. It cleans the ceiling and there are a lot of cool attachments. It helps me with both my allergies and asthma.
I attached a picture to show you. I vacuum once a week. I emptied the canister before I vacuumed. The picture is of JUST MY LIVING ROOM!!! There is just the 2 of us and my cat....now imagine if there were more of us how much worse it would be!
So....if your in the mood for a new vacuum I have one I suggest!:0)
Have a great week!

Just Venting....

So I am in line to check out at Wal-mart last night and I was floored by what I heard a college girl say. Her and her 2 friends are checking out...they buy a lot of crap and the last one bought the beer( Probably the only one that was 21). The one in front of the beer girl checks out and goes to pay for it. She very loudly says " You know my dad is getting upset about me always using his credit card for everything". So the one buying the beer says" So why don't you just get a job?" The girl replied" Eww gross...I don't do work." ARE YOU (INSERT BAD WORD!!) KIDDING ME??? Who does that? That girl should have been slapped right then and there. She has no idea how hard people work , probably so they can pay off her credit card. She has no clue what reality is and when that day comes, boy do I feel sorry for her.

Vacation was (almost)perfect!!!:0)

So as you know we went to Summit Point, WV for 10 days. 2 of the days we rode a train into DC. I loved DC it was great! We saw a lot of cool stuff and had a blast! On day 2(March 19Th) we came out of the national archives to a bunch of war protesters out side the building. Talk about VERY uncomfortable...I got teary eyed 1) because I was very sad too see upside down flags and to read what they said 2) because they were everywhere and made me feel uncomfortable. The look on Joe's face said a lot to me....he was angry. We finally walked out in the middle of the street because there were cops everywhere blocking the street. About 10 minutes later it started DOWN POURING!!! About the time our bus headed into Arlington Cemetery. I just laughed because I thought in some small way it was God trying to send the protesters home! (Probably not, but I want to think it). It rained the rest of the day too. So...here we are at Arlington with NO umbrellas or jacket. We were soaked!!! Drenched and cold! We were there for like 3 hours or so. About 3/4 of the way being done a security guard says" hey you know they sell ponchos in the gift shop...right?" So we went and got them because we still wanted to walk to Iwo Jima. It did a little good. I was able to keep the camera dry and my arms!
We were going to the Smithsonian after that, but since we were wet and cold...we found a local brewery instead and drank beer to warm up!:0) Then we went shopping in union station and got on the train for home.

It was a LONG drive (19 hours) but totally worth it!
I will post more later....too sleepy!!!!

We got a new car!!

Here are some pics of our new car. We went to Enid (my hometown) tonight and picked it up. The first one is Joe and my dad talking about the car. The second is the front and the last is the side view(and my mom in the background). This is the first car I have had with a sun roof and power windows and locks. I am SUPER EXCITED!!!:0) It gets 35 MPG on the highway so our trip to DC(yes Jen you guessed right!) will be great on gas.
DC here we come!!

We're moving this summer!!!!

We have been looking for a new rental house for a while because we are unhappy with our current house and the lease will be up this summer. Being in a college town you would think it would be easy to find a house right?? WRONG!! The houses we have looked at have been WAY too small(after being married for 5 years you accumulate a lot of crap!) or the houses are ghetto and about to fall apart. In both cases they are RIDICULOUSLY over priced!!
There is a house right down the street( 5 houses away) that put a rent sign up a few weeks ago. I got the number and thought "eh- what can it hurt?" I called and talked to the landlord and found out somethings about the house. Due to funerals and being gone 2 weekends in a row it took us a while to go and see the house. We went on Saturday afternoon to go see it. The minute I walked in I knew it was the place for us!:0) It's SO pretty and unlike my current house, has been maintained and the appliances have been updated. It is such a nicer house and only $50.00 more than we are paying now. It's So worth the pay increase. The new house has the laundry room inside, which is the best feature to me! In our current house it's out in the garage.
Anyway, I am SUPER excited and I cannot wait to start some what packing!! Being so close I can just load up the car and unload in a few minutes.
Well I better run...gotta go finish the laundry...leaving on Friday for Spring Break.
Wanna know where??? Here's a hint...there is a famous house there and another place has a soldier who likes to walk a lot!!
Any guesses????

Back in the grind!

We came back to Stillwater on Saturday. We went to Hastings(a movie rental place) and then to sonic to grab some ice cream. We were leaving sonic and Joe had pulled out of the stall and was fixing to drive forward. Suddenly the car in the opposite stall hits our car. We get out and there's quite a bit of damage to his, but not anything to ours. Joe says "it's not big deal" let's just go....after all HE HIT US!! Then the guys say" oh no the police are on the way and you will pay for my car". He had a BRAND new Lexus SUV just off off the lot, and we have a 98 Chevy cavalier that's on it's last life! Joe says "dude you have got to be kidding me. You hit me". The cop gets there and goes over to the other driver first and tells Joe get the insurance and licence. This lady ran over and said "Are they trying to say you did it"? We said yes and she said she saw it and was going to write a witness report.(Thank God) then her husband writes one too.
While all of this is going on the guy from the other car is being a jerk to the cop. asking "if he's going to give us a ticket"? The cop said its private property and that he cannot do that nor say who's fault it was. The guys says "well my lawyer is in the car and she will handle this"! The cop said "OK but I really could care less and your threatening is not going to help you". SERIOUSLY???? Who takes their lawyer to a drive up fast food restaurant??? Whatever dude!
Needless to say we finally got to leave and immediately called USAA when we got home.

Thanks to everyone who left comments or prayers while I have been dealing with my Grandma. It means a lot. What bothers me is people I do not know try and hug me and console me. Maybe I am being rude, but it's truly how I feel. There has been a couple of people at my work that I really do not know and they have tried to hug me and say"I'm so sorry". It;s weird to me! You do not know me.
Is that wrong? Basically total strangers trying to hug me?
Does anyone else feel that way?

Grandma update

Yesterday was probably the worst day of my life. We went to Joe's grandma's funeral and my grandma passed away yesterday. I am physically and emotionally drained. My grandma's funeral is Wednesday. I get 3 days leave from work. Even though the funeral is an hour away I am going to take the 3 days and spend some time with my family and just time to deal with it all. Both deaths were sudden and unexpected.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. We appreciate it.

Thoughts and Prayers

My Grandma was put in ICU Monday and Joe's Grandma died this morning. It's just a little tough around here right now. We would appreciate any thoughts and prayers.
Thanks,

I got this as an e-mail so I thought I would pass it along!

Things NOT to say to a military Spouse or Girlfriend!

1. 'Aren't you afraid that he'll be killed?'
(This one ranks in at number one on the 'duh' list. Of course we're afraid. We're terrified. The thought always lingers at the backs of our minds ---but thanks brilliant, you just brought it back to the front. Maybe next you can go ask someone with cancer if they're scared of dying.)

2. 'I don't know how you manage. I don't think I could do it.'
(This is intended to be a compliment. Though, its just a little annoying. Here's why: it's not like all of us military wives have been dreaming since childhood of the day we'd get to be anxious single moms who carry cell phones with us to the bathroom and in the shower. We're not made of some mysterious matter that makes us more capable, we just got asked to take on a challenging job. So we rose to the challenge and found the strength to make sacrifices.)

3. 'At least he's not in Iraq.'
(This is the number one most annoying comment for those whose husbands are in Afghanistan. What do they think is happening in Afghanistan? An international game of golf? Guys are fighting and dying over there.)

4.'Do you think he'll get to come home for Christmas/anniversary/birthday/birth of a child/wedding/family reunion, etc?'(Don't you watch the news? No! They don't get to come home for any of these things. Please don't ask again.)

5.'What are you going to do to keep yourself busy while he's gone?'
(Short answer: Try to keep my sanity. Maybe there's a military wife out there who gets bored when her husband leaves, but I have yet to meet her. For the rest of us, those with and without children, we find ourselves having to be two people. That keeps us plenty busy. We do get lonely, but we don't get bored, and drinking massive amounts of wine always helps keep me busy.)

6. 'How much longer does he have until he can get out?'(This one is annoying to many of us whether our husbands are deployed or not. Many of our husbands aren't counting down the days until they 'can' get out. Many of them keep signing back up again and again because they actually love what they do or they VOLUNTEER AGAIN and AGAIN to go back to Iraq b/c there is work that needs to be done.)

7. 'This deployment shouldn't be so bad, now that you're used to it.'
(Sure, we do learn coping skills and its true the more deployments you've gone through, the easier dealing with it becomes. And we figure out ways to make life go smoother while the guys are gone. But it never gets 'easy' and the bullets and bombs don't skip over our guys just because they've been there before. The worry never goes away.)

8. 'My husband had to go to Europe for business once for three weeks. I totally know what you're going through.'(This one is similar to number two. Do not equate your husband's three week trip to London/Omaha/Tokyo/etc. with a 12-15 month or more deployment to a war zone. Aside from the obvious time difference, nobody shot at your husband or tried to blow him up with an I.E.D., your husband could call home pretty much any time he wanted to, he flew comfortably on a commercial plane, slept between crisp white sheets and ate well, paying for everything with an expense account. There is no comparison. We do not feel bonded to you in the slightest because of this comment and, if anything, we probably resent you a bit for it. Comparing a 12 month combat deployment to a few weeks business trip is like comparing a shitty ford taurus with mercedes convertible.)

9. 'Wow you must miss him?'
(This one also gets antoher big 'duh'. Of course we miss our men. There are some wives who do not and they're now divorced.)

10. 'Where is he exactly? Where is that?'
(I don't expect non-military folks to be able to find Anbar Province on a map, but they should know by now that it's in Iraq. Likewise, know that Kabul and Kandahar are in Afghanistan. Know that Muqtada al Sadr is the insurgent leader of the Mahdi Army in Iraq and that Sadr City is his home area. Know that Iran is a major threat to our country and that it is located between Afghanistan and Iraq. Our country has been at war in Afghanistan for seven years and at war in Iraq for five years. These basic facts are not secrets, they're on the news every night and in the papers every day ---and on maps everywhere.)

11. 'Well, he signed up for it, so it's his own fault whatever happens over there.
(Yes, ignorant ass, he did sign up. Each and every day he protects your right to make stupid comments like that. He didn't sign up and ask to be hit by anything, he signed up to protect his country. Oh, and by the way, he asked me to tell you that 'You're welcome.' He's still fighting for your freedom.)

12. 'Don't you miss sex! I couldn't do it!'
(hmmm, no i don't miss sex. i'm a robot. seriously...military spouses learn quickly that our relationships must be founded on something greater than sex. We learn to appreciate the important things, like simply hearing their voices, seeing their faces, being able to have dinner together every night. And the hard truth is, most relationships probably couldn't withstand 12 months of sex deprivation.)

13. 'Well in my opinion.....'
(Stop right there. Yo, I didn't ask for you your personal political opinions. Hey, I love a heated political debate, but not in the grocery store, not in Jamba Juice, not at Nordstrom, not in a bar when I'm out with my girls trying to forget the war, and CERTAINLY NOT AT WORK. We tell co-workers about deployments so when we have to spend lunch hours running our asses off doing errands and taking care of the house, dog, and kids, they have an understanding. We do not tell co-workers and colleagues because we are giving an invitation to ramble about politics or because we so eagerly want to hear how much they hate the President, esp. while we're trying to heat up our lean cuisines in the crappy office microwaves.)

last but not least....

14. 'OH, that's horrible...I'm so sorry!'
(He's doing his job, he's a badass, and he loves his job. Don't be sorry. Be appreciative and please take a moment out of your comfortable American lives to realize that our soldiers fight the wars abroad so those wars stay abroad.)

If you want to say anything, say thank you. After all, we are sexually deprived for your freedom.

My new love!

So a friend I work with has been talking about Zumba class and how we should go try it. What is Zumba? It is a combination of dancing and aerobics set to latin music. We went 2 weeks ago and it was fun! I could not do all the moves like the instructor but I figured as long as I was moving and sweating that was good, right?!
I went back today and had a BLAST!! The class is an hour long and you dance and sweat the whole time. I am going to download some Zumba music on iTunes and try my best to go every week. If you have not tried it, and it is offered in your area you should go at least once. Who knows you might love it as much as me.:0)

MMMMMazing Muffins!!!

So I got 2 recipes from a really cool lady named V(all my army friends know her!) Anyway, I tried both of them and HELLO they were AMAZING!!!:0) I posted earlier about how I was going to eat a little healthier this year and I LOVE these recipes.

The first one is Pumpkin Muffins
You can use either a box of Carrot Cake or Spice Cake. I chose Carrot Cake.
Box of Carrot Cake
1 Can of pumpkin(Not pie filling)
1C Raisins
1C Walnuts
( I also added about 2TBSP milk because the mix is going to be thick.)
Add the 4 above mentioned in a bowl. DO NOT ADD THE EGGS AND OIL FROM THE CAKE MIX!!!
Bake at 400 for 15-20 minutes. They are going to rise quite like a regular muffin, or get as brown, but are still delicious!!!

The second is Lemon Poppy seed Muffins.
1 box of lemon poppy seed muffin mix
1 6oz jar of vanilla yogurt
1 6oz jar of lemon yogurt
(Also 2 TBSP milk to help not be so thick, but not required)
Mix the 3 ingredients together and bake at 425 for 15 minutes. Will not brown like a muffin but will get golden around the edges.
If you want a more lemon taste do 2 lemon yogurts instead of vanilla and if you want to tone down the lemon do 2 vanilla yogurts. I thought they were just right with one of each.

I also just pulled blueberry muffins out of the oven. They were also delicious!! It was a box of muffin mix and 2 jars vanilla yogurt. Might try 1 vanilla and one blueberry next time!!!

Anyway, enjoy them I definitely have!!!:0)

AAAAHHHHHHBBBBLLLAAAAHHHHHHUUUUHHHHH

OK, I totally feel better now! What a day I had at school today! As many of you know I am a TA for a Pre-K class. I LOVE LOVE LOVE my job and I know now that I definitely DO want to be a teacher and have found my calling. I work with the best teacher anyone could ask for. However, today was a day from HELL!! 2 weeks off of school was rough on the 4 year olds and they all seemed to have forgotten A LOT over the break. We took it easy last week and it was pretty mellow. Now I know why...... We have a little girl(she's the youngest in the class) that just whines and cries ALL DAY LONG!!!! She cries if she does not want to do something, if she cannot find something, or if she thinks it's too hard.. It's not really a cry...more like a high pitched whiny voice that says "I can't" and then starts to cry. UUUHHHH I cannot stand whining! This little girl was very spoiled by grandma and grandpa over the break and pretty much did not have to do anything for herself. Now the parents have resorted to also doing it for her so that she will stop crying because they do not want to hear it. But, what they fail to realize is that they are not actually teaching her anything by doing it for her and it only going to get worse. I kind of had a melt down at school today.. I told her to stop whining because I was sick of it..I then had to leave the room and take a few BIG DEEP breaths!!! There were kids in the class holding their ears because they are sick of it!!
So, my moms and teachers out there that read this..... What's your advice? We have mentioned the whining to mom and dad and encouraged them to let her do things for herself but I feel it's getting worse...NOT better! Now what?
Also any advice on keeping my sanity??

TTYL,
Roxxi

No Resolution...just better

SO, I am not a fan of New Year's Resolutions. I do not know anyone that sticks to them and so they are just a waste of time. I AM however going to try and do something better this year. I am going to cook a little more organic food this year and healthier recipes. I have been searching the net for new stuff and have even tried a few. In the spring I am going to grow a garden and I am going to try and grow fresh herbs too. I want to cook with fresh spices whenever possible.

On another note, I sold another book AND Joe told me today that I can sell some of his books now that he sees that I have sold 3 totalling $130.00. So, after the doctors apt tomorrow(had a cold for a week now....) I am going to list his books too!

Have a great weekend!

Friday, December 28, 2007

WOW!!! It worked!!

I was looking around and decided there were a few textbooks that I could part with. So, I went to half.com(it's powered by eBay) and I listed about 4 books. I thought nothing of it, and then yesterday I sold one and a few minutes ago I checked again, and I sold another one! I cannot believe it. It actually worked. I made about $105.00 between the 2 books.:0) I am SUPER excited and HOPE the other 2 sell too. I tried to sell some of Joe's books, but he would not part with them! Maybe I can talk him into it once he sees that I got paid.

PS We got a Wii...it's super cool! (It was our Christmas to each other)

What a day!!!

Let me just tell you about my day yesterday! As you all know I work in the school system as a teachers assistant. We were at PE yesterday. 2 kids ran into each other. One hit their head, the other busted his lip open. So I walk the kid down the hall trying to calm him down without him touching me, (Blood and snot on hands). We are almost to the office when I stop for a second and look away from the child. He then grabs my hand and now I have his blood and snot on me. We got to the office and I immediately SCRUB my hands. I eve pour almost a whole;e bottle of peroxide on my hand. We get him an ice pack and all is good. I take him back to class and tell the teacher I work with what happened. She asked me if I had Hepatitis shot? I said no. She says go now to the nurse and see about getting one. So.... I go. I tell her what happened and as I am telling the story about him grabbing my hand I raise it up. She FREAKS out because she sees a cat scratch on my hand. She tells me that this is an "exposure". His blood or snot could have made its way into my cat scratch. OK....really not freaking out. Whatever. I get a Hepatitis shot and then am told I have to go and have my blood as well as the child's blood tested for Hepatitis and HIV. GREAT!! Now you are annoying me and inconveniencing me. So I go to the most germ invested crowded clinic and wait..... I go see a doc he looks at my hand. Gives me an antibiotic, and then I have to go down to the lab for blood work.
I go tell the nurse the usual ....bad veins...use a baby needle..blah blah blah. I guess she could tell that I was annoyed because she says to me" you should just consider that all blood is bad blood." I say "OK". She then goes on to tell me that 2 weeks ago she tested a 26yd old female positive for Hepatitis C THEN tells me that a 15 yr old girl tested positive for HIV. I got teary eyed. Not because she scared me, but because there is a 15 yr old in my town with AIDS. She is SO young. I leave and go back to work. My kids are at lunch and the grandma comes to get the boy so he can go get his blood drawn. She then proceeds to lip off to one of the nurses that "shouldn't she be worried about what her grandchild can get from the teacher, NOT what the child gave to me"? HELLO???? Did I bleed and snot all over YOUR kid??? NO!! He did it to me! I should be worried NOT you. (On a side note the mom has about 5 piercings in her face at at least 4 tattoos that I can see on her body when she comes to get her child). So yeah...please worry about me! WHATEVER!!!
I was just annoyed all day after that. But...I got the 1st of 3 shots I have to get for hepatitis. LUCKY ME!!!:0)

OR NOT.....

We are having family Christmas with my brother and his wife and my parents tomorrow. I realized this evening that the presents were not wrapped. So....I got the boxes all ready and went to the garage for some wrapping paper. There is no wrapping paper so I went a little"green" this year! I have brown paper and ribbon that I found in the house and improvised.
This is a picture of the final projects

I wrote earlier that I was not going to do a tree this year. However, I came home to one! Joe decided to put it up and do the lights before I got home. We did the ornaments together! Here's a picture of the tree.

Hope you guys have a great weekend! 11 days til Christmas!! It's supposed to snow here tonight...fun fun!!

Monday, December 10, 2007

It's begining to look at lot like....I hate this crap!

OK, so got the day off today. We got ice and sleeting yesterday. I am actually disappointed that we are off. The more we are out now the longer we are in school in May.YUCK!!! I am not a big fan of ice and sleet.I am already ready for it to be over!
But, on the flip side I laid on the couch all day, took 2 naps, watch Dr. Phil and Oprah(which I never get to do!) and was completely lazy today.:0)

Also, I decided no Christmas tree this year. We are not going to be here and we don't have kiddos, so it seemed like a waste of time......maybe next year.
